Just looked at your comment in my John Carpenter list. I see what you mean. Nice list!
It seems that there really is no denying that the top 10 films are by far his best, though it's always interesting to see how everyone orders them. Can't really disagree with anything other than my own personal list, though there will always be a part of me that finds Halloween to be slightly overrated. Just a small part though, heh.
I think everyone can agree that Ghost of Mars is his worst film but still enjoyable somewhat. I know that the Thing is my favorite but I understand why everybody likes Halloween so much.
Ghosts of Mars is definitely enjoyable, but it isn't very good. Hah.
As much as I love The Thing (and I LOVE The Thing!), Halloween has been my favorite film since I saw it for the first time way back in the mid-late 90's. I saw The Thing for the first time not long after that, but I'll always prefer Halloween.
After another viewing of The Thing, I am curious to see if that will make your list change any because when I first watched it, it was good and on second viewing it was fantastic.
Oh, I've seen The Thing at least six or seven times by now and it's fantastic every time, but Halloween will always be #1. ;-)
Actually, I think it's closer to eight or nine times (I've seen The Thing). And I recently got the Blu-ray, so I'll watch it again very soon.
Richard I just followed your link from Jay's list and thought I would comment. I totally agree with you regarding "Elvis". I thought it was very well done and underrated. Kurt Russell did a great job. I like your list. It would be very close to mine. Now I don't have to do one. :-)
I would move "Vampires" up a couple of notches. I really enjoyed that one for some reason.
The only other change I would probably make, would be to definitely move "The Thing" to # 1! :-)
I also enjoyed "Ghosts of Mars" but I understand why you and others rank it last. Good list
In the Mouth of Madness is a forgotten gem, love it.
It sure it. (Unfortunately,) it's his last great film.
I do like Vampires a lot, and actually thought of moving it up. Ghosts of Mars is definitely enjoyable, but not a very good movie, hence why it's dead last. :P
