John Carter 2012 ★★½

So much non textual buzz on this film. No, I did not read the books & did not have much expectations for it. We talk about how a good script and adept direction are so important. Andrew Stanton does a capable job keeping the pace fluid & framing the action quite well actually. The script is a bit "heavy" and I found myself wondering if I really cared about these characters & their plight. Michael Chabon (co-writer) is one of my favorite novelists, but I have yet to really see his screenwriting reflect his first rate plotting & dialogue. Taylor Kitsch (great name) does a passable job as the obstinate, but always passionate John Carter, but I think this role would have benefited with a big name star. Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana come to mind. Mark Strong does his now usual turn as the villain. Good effects in the ever increasing bar of spectacle & believability. I gotta say, I loved the "dog". If your curious I would suggest seeing it on the big screen. I saw it in 3-D and it does not really add much to it.
