Evil Dead 2013
Allow me to preface my review: I did not feel that a remake of Evil Dead was necessary, yet my curiosity had a solid enough build that I could not ignore this version. I love the original, and more so the original remake (Evil Dead 2) but this revision accomplished what it set out to do: Bringing the tale of the cabin in the woods in to the 21st century. This may heavily rely on the supernatural, but it is…

Looper 2012
neat time-travel tale that brings some new ideas to the table.
sadly, that table has a leg much shorter than the rest which wobbles it a bit too much to set your drink on without worry that it will end up in your lap. making JGL look and act more like Willis was a bad call. i would have been much more readily accepting of him as a younger version if they didn't have the jarring facial prosthetics. by no… -
Star Trek: Nemesis 2002
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Sinister 2012
i felt that although this one was extremely derivative, that it provided some authentic genre terror. the antagonist was not the most original, the story was very predictable, the premise was nothing new but those factors considered it was a pleasant overall return to horror. when the American film industry decided to redo Ringu, it worked to introduce a concept to audiences that lack the ability to sit through subbed or dubbed films. this film takes the idea of a…

ParaNorman 2012
Laika knocks it out of the park again with their tremendous stop-motion animation. The story itself feels like adding Monster Squad to a cup of Silent Hill with slight peppering of Are You Afraid of the Dark? episodes. bake at 350* for an hour and a half, let cool and enjoy.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
Napoleon Bonaparte once said "Haters are Going to Hate."
These words forever will live on forever.
I am an obsessive Batman fan. I have been constantly absorbing the mythology of this character for nearly 3 decades. I have seen many takes on the character, many side stories, one-offs and examinations over the years through the eyes of various media. I went in not expecting this film to be "comic accurate" as I've seen the first two in this trilogy, so… -
The Amazing Spider-Man 2012
i really enjoyed this. overall, i think that Garfield played a better Spider-Man although out of the suit he wasn't quite as good for some reason. this new take on the story of the hero was entirely welcomed. there were some things i didn't particularly love in those changes, but it worked for the story. there were minor bits and pieces that felt a tad off but looking at the bigger picture i was happy. it had a good solid story and characterization, (in my opinion) more so than Marvel's in-house studio pictures.

All-Star Superman 2011
a wonderful entry in the DC animated universe. justice was done to this feature, based on a tremendous story by the prolific Grant Morrison. this was an excellent choice for DC to adapt to the animated screen and to share with the world at large.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies 2009
great rendition of the comic, brought to life in the animated style many are used to from the DC animated universe that remains faithful to the original comic art. this one was definitely done with care and paid off.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths 2010
a fun movie that doesn't feel the need to introduce you to iconic characters, rather it just focuses on giving you a story and having you follow along. nothing dumbed down, good voice acting overall and a solid central purpose. this isn't the best of the animated features from DC but it is one i definitely appreciated. the Spectre short was absolutely amazing, as i feel all of the shorts have been. it really covers the motivations and characterizations in the brief run time.

Wonder Woman 2009
another great addition in the DC animated features. sadly, such great work on their franchise animated features has removed any focus on the live action films that help drive pop culture and get people in to comic shops to check out more stories of the characters. many people have said how Marvel has dominated the box office (which isn't entirely true. from Superman the Movie in '78 all the way up to X-Men in 2000, DC had the live action…
