Wendy and Lucy is a film that will either put you to sleep or have you experiencing something real happening on screen. There is an utter lack of trying to make the viewer do anything, which is admirable. To enjoy this film the viewer has to find and adopt the suitable mindset for the task.

What one needs to do while watching this film, at least for the first time, is to let it all flow through oneself, instead of trying to piece it all together into some coherent thesis. It's two hours of constant, surreal meditation on life and it doesn't try to manipulate the viewer one way or another at any point which is just one of the things that makes this film exceptional.

Quite a simple film but a poignant one, bolstered with excellent performances.

A film featuring a dozen ideas, none of which are elaborated upon. Not bad in any sense, just unexceptional.
