Marvelous sci-fi/fantasy swashbuckler, the likes of which they don't really make anymore. Despite being bookended by a convoluted opening and a wobbly coda, JOHN CARTER delivers the same old-fashioned movie serial thrills that George Lucas could deliver in his prime.
