A.I. Artificial Intelligence 2001

Dan Cole’s review:
A small domestic drama, a futuristic robot dystopia story, a tale of persecution and a blatant fairy tale. A.I. is all these things, but it struggles to balance each aspect of David's journey even with its bloated running time. The film is a little heavy handed as a morality tale, but it has a emotional complexity to it that really impresses. Visually Spielberg delivers some awe inspiring moments. The world he creates hasn't the depth of other science fiction films, but he at least adds some unique touches that stand out (Moon balloon). Haley Joel Osment is mesmerising as David and is easily the best member of the cast. It maybe flawed, but it is an interesting piece of Sci-Fi that has a heart.
