Cloverfield 2008

Dan Cole’s review:
Matt Reeves and Drew Goddard provide a civilian perspective to the age old monster rampaging through a city narrative. The film's found footage angle adds a sense of confusion and panic to the proceedings, which helps the plot no end. The imagery on display easily evokes memories of 9/11 and it exploits this fact to great effect. There is a sense of realism and the fact the film focuses on the people on the ground rather than the military/scientists allows it to feel fresh. A great monster film for the 21st century.
