Dan Cole’s review published on Letterboxd :
This Russian genre piece is more concerned with world building than a coherent narrative. That isn't to say that the story fails it just becomes overwhelmed by the sheer amount of exposition the film has to get through. Visually Bekmambetov's film really does feel like the audience are witnessing the dank and dirty of a Russia we seldom see. It is a rewarding visual experience that feels fresh and unique. Even if its narrative is not.
