Alex Aloise’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’m glad that as I’ve gotten older my comedy tastes have matured and improved because when I was a kid I did not get The Upright Citizens Brigade. Now though, I can’t get enough of them. And it seems like a lot of people feel the same way with the surging popularities of the UCB Theaters in New York and LA.
All of this UCB rediscovery led me to MARTIN & ORLOFF, a little movie written by Matt Walsh and Ian Roberts. It’s fun and absurd and filled with appearances from current comedy stars like Jon Benjamin and Tina Fey.
And it’s got a special appearance from once and future Full Blooded Italian, Big Sal E. Graziano.
MARTIN & ORLOFF isn’t going to turn you into a full-blown UCB zealot, but it serves as a cool introduction to the group and one side of their style. Plus, it proves that they can pull off long-form comedy just as well as sketch.
Of course it was made in 2002 so they’ve since proven that point anyway but I just saw this movie so I want to say it now. Said.
