Halloween II 2009

grooveman’s review:
Note: I watched the director's cut. I haven't seen the theatrical so I don't know what's different.
I seem to be defending this film quite a lot lately so I decided to give this a rewatch to see if I was right in thinking this was the amazing freak out of a film I defend it to be. I most definitely am correct. Maybe I'm crazy(I probably am) but I easily think this is a slasher masterpiece. This film is brutal but also very emotional, especially sequences with Brad Dourif. It's very lynchian and absolutley beautiful to look at. This easily is a favorite horror film of mine. Extemely brutal and raw. Rob Zombie is unapolgetically a favorite director of mine.
I always forget this exists for some reason. I need to get around to seeing it!
Dammit, you're going to make me watch this movie.
The first was the epitome of dogshit. I can't imagine much of an improvement...but I suppose I can give it a fair shot.
To be fair guys, I don't know anybody else who loves this film let alone really even like it. I adore it so if that means anything give it a watch. Just don't be pissed if you hate it haha!!
@grooveman: You're not alone.
Good to know Mr. DuLac :)
Actually tried watching Rob Zombie's Halloween yesterday morning, and I got as far as little Michael duck taping the guy to the chair. That's as far as I got the first time I tried watching it. Then I just skipped around to different scenes to see how much I would have hated the film, and I now know I would've hated it a lot. Pretty much as soon as you give Michael Meyers a reason for being the way he is, the entire character is ruined for me.
@Filmape.I like the first one but I'm not the biggest fan. It tries to stay somewhat close to the original, especially in the second half and doesn't even come close to the brilliance of the original. The second one truly is a Zombie film and I obviously love it.
@grooveman: So should I give the second film a shot then, eventhough I haven't finished the first?
The second film is even more "out there" then the first which is why I think even more people hate the second one then the first.
For me the reasons I like his two remakes is because he did something different and did his own take on it even more so in the second one. He remade "Halloween" and not "John Carpenter's Halloween", if that makes any sense to anyone. I have no interest in seeing remakes that change nothing from the original. When nothing is changed, even when they are well made they'll always seem bland to the original. (ei: Psycho, Nightmare on Elm St, ect...). There's no point. If I want to see John Carpenter's Halloween, I'll watch John Carpenter's Halloween and not someone trying to imitate him. If you're going to do a remake change things up and take chances, that's what Zombie did for better or worst.
With that said I totally understand why people don't like them :-)
@filmape. Absolutely give it a watch. I'll hook you up next time I see you.
Well said Mr. DuLac.
As terrible as this "film" is (and it's pretty damn terrible), Brad Dourif is truly excellent, I'll give you that. ;-)
I always like Brad Dourif.
I would love a Halloween III that would continue without Michael Myers and just play out how this one ended, but their just going to ignore how this one ended and bring him back.
I've already had 9 films of Michael Myers killing people... it's like what I said before, do something different otherwise I'll probably just watch the originals (which I love... even the later ones to some extent).
I watchd this again today, and it's a definite contender for my top 100. All your thoughts on it are correct, and Brad Dourif's performance is excellent. The scene where he breaks down in a crying and moaning fit is a truly haunting scene and his performance has a lot to do with why I hold the film in such high regard.
Totally Richard. A very underrated film.
