My top 20 favorite directors and my favorite film by them

My only rule for this list is I've had to of seen at least 4 films from each director. Unfortunately there are some great directors I've seen very little from.

  • No Hitchcock?

I don't think we can be friends anymore.

  • @Ryan.Actually I should of added that I had to of seen at least 4 of each of these directors films. I've unfortunately only seen 2 hitchcock films. Psycho and The Birds. I loved themk both by the way. What the fuck is wrong with me? I really need to watch more Hitchcock. There's a huge box set of him coming out on blu-ray with about 15 of his films so I will definitely pick that up.

  • I most recommend:

    North By Northwest
    Rear Window
    Vertigo
    Notorious
    Strangers on a Train
    Dial M For Murder
    To Catch A Thief
    Shadow of a Doubt
The Man Who Knew Too Much
    Lifeboat

...and pretty much in that order. Plus more that kick ass. His body of work is simply unparalleled.

  • Yeah thanks Ryan. I've really got to get on those films.

  • Sam Neill has done some bonkers horror films in his time.

  • Nice seeing John Woo here with FACE/OFF ... if I can make a suggestion about John Woo, watch THE KILLER. Outstanding film, with one of the most perfectly executed "hero/villain" relationships I have ever seen in my life.

Special credit goes to Ryan here, for suggesting and helping me discover this film as well .... ; )

  • Yeah, Face/Off is a bold choice.

  • I loved The Killer but I like Face/Off even more. Even Hard Target is pretty awesome.

  • Solid list. I'd switch Marie Antionette for Lost in Translation, Face/Off for The Killer, History of Violence for Videodrome and Bronson for either Pusher 2 or Drive. Everything on your list is still great

  • @Jonny. Love Sam Neil he's in some great films.

@AdamCalgary. Thanks Man! I love all the films you mentioned and could easily swap films. I was really close to putting The Fly in for Cronenberg.

  • Man, I'm very curious to watch Bronson. I found Drive really impressive!! He is a fantastic director indeed

  • @Bruno. Valhalla Rising is an amazing Refn film also.
