John Carpenter’s review:
In the horror world, movies can be slow and tedious or edgy and shocking. “Rogue River” somehow falls right in the middle of these two extremes. For every seemingly endless slow paced walk down the hallway or stairs, there are some genuinely ballsy moments that give Jourdan McClure’s feature debut some street cred. The setup is pretty simple. Mara (Michelle Page) heads out to the Rogue River to scatter her father’s ashes. While there she has a friendly encounter with Jon (Bill Moseley) then accepts his offer to help once Mara realizes her car has been towed for illegal parking. Jon takes Mara to his house where his wife Lea (Lucinda Jenney) is preparing dinner. They insist that she stay the night and settle the issues with her car in the morning. Everything seems fine, but this lovely couple is a bit…off. As the night gets longer, Mara begins to realize Jon and Lea have a few skeletons in their closet along with some ulterior motives for her being a guest.
