Harlequin’s review published on Letterboxd:
Party girl Kate misses the last Tube train and is trapped overnight in the labyrinth under London.
Creep has been compared to The Descent, which many people do unfavourably. But why?
In all honesty, Creep lived up to almost everything The Descent also offers, and I fell in love with Creep for the exact same reason I fell in love with The Descent. Suspense, suspense, suspense.
The first half was good, but the second act was downright terrifying.
Once the introduction's are complete the remainder of the 80 minutes running time is spent within the depths of the London Underground. A scary place when alone at night, creeps or no creeps (there are usually a few creeps).
Which is why I can honestly say that the setting is magnificent. And it is not so far from the truth either. London is a strange place with lots hidden below the surface. The "lost rivers" of London for instance, which now flow through forgotten tunnels caught up in the sewage system. The plot is certainly not impossible.
The director cleverly stays away from most Horror cliché's as well, lo and behold, the main character has a brain!
I think it is a great film. Sure it has a few flaws. Sure, it is not quite factually accurate in some ways (and yes - all horror movies are factually accurate, aren't they!), but it's entertaining, and just what I've been looking for.
