    So. Much. FUN!

  • Sinister 2012

    ★★★ Watched 14 Oct, 2012

Like many other horror films behore it, Sinister starts off great with a creepy score and dark, atmospheric cinematography, but ends on a rather flat note.

That said, the first two acts of film are effectively executed, with genuine scares, sparing Sinister from being just another Hollywood horror flick.

Just so cool. A visual and stylistic masterpiece.

Still speechless. Will try to collect right words to describe feeling after watching one or two more times.

We did a review of the film on our comic book podcast Tres Komikeros.

If you have about an hour to spare, you can check it out here:

I still haven't settled on a written review, and probably won't until I've seen it at least once more.

    Deeply flawed. Lots of fun.

  • Prometheus 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 26 Jun, 2012

The film is greater than the sum of its parts, despite many of its parts being terribly weak.

Prometheus is visually stunning. The opening sequence is absolutely gorgeous and Ridley Scott pulls off some truly amazing set pieces. I only saw the regular 2D version, but I hear that the 3D is very well executed also.

Once again, Michael Fassbender gives us another unforgettable performance, this time as the android David, whose ambiguous motivations propel most of the plot.

    The…

I read the reviews. I saw the film. Then I checked the reviews again to see if I read them right the first time and it turns out I did. I really don't see what people are raving about.

The films starts off promisingly with the accident in the beginning and scene at the hospital. Then all the seams started to come off.

The shots were uninspired. The acting is quite bad. And then there's the monsters. That's when I…

  • The Boondock Saints 2000

    ½ Watched 18 Jun, 2012

First off, let me just get it out there that before I ever even saw this film I had already seen the documentary Overnight about its making and its notorious director/writer Troy Duffy. Although the documentary was less about the actual film and more about the man who made it, Overnight made me prejudiced towards The Boondock Saints itself.

Now that I've actually given the film a shot, I think I understand why this it's built such a strong cult…

A lot better than I remembered.

Okay, I heard that this film got pretty good reviews and that it's really funny, but I still went into it expecting to be disappointed. Boy, was I wrong. This was TONS of fun. I was grinning like an asshole all throughout. I was never a big fan of Channing Tatum before but he was the biggest surprise for me. Who knew he was this effective in comedy? Great comedy, smart action, and more than a few surprises. Loved it!

  • Mirror Mirror 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 12 Jun, 2012

Although sometimes unbalanced and at certain points way off-kilter, Mirror Mirror is visually stunning and honestly quite entertaining. There are good performances, particularly from Julia Roberts who gives us a refreshing take on the classic wicked stepmother.

I suspect that there's actually more to this film than what a one-time viewing would imply. Dare I say it deserves another watch?
