Spider-Man 2002 ★★★★★

I can forgive Sam Raimi his goofy streaks - Green Goblin's costume, an appearance from Macy Gray, among others - because, deep down, Raimi gets it. The man has comic books in his blood. Peter Parker is the overlooked geek with a heart of gold who just needed that little confidence boost that comes from super powers to make headway with the opposite sex.

We knew from "Darkman" that Raimi had what it took to direct a superhero movie but here, with a much less tormented hero, the director is able to paint the screen with lush primary colors and deliver those big emotions.
