Seriously, what is wrong with this world when any number of overrated Writer/Directors churn out one movie after the other, yet this is only Martin McDonagh's second feature film after IN BRUGES.
Then again, if the quality of his productions stays as strong I'll gladly wait another 4-5 years for his next movie.
Pretty standard haunted house thriller.... with the slight twist that the house is only haunted because the kid is. The last half an hour or so make this a bit more entertaining when we see Dad venturing into the kid's dreamlike world (very Silent Hill-ish at times). If only the film had had more of those moments.
And if only the film would not have overdone the jump scares. Jump scares are fun at times but overall are too much…
Agent gets shot, falls into water, wakes up at the coast where he drinks Heineken and shacks up with a local lass before getting back into business in a series of excellent, realistic action scenes. And this is now a move *back* from Bourne?
I definitely liked the movie. I may eventually get to love it when I see it again away from the monkeys behind me who were chatting non-stop and kept on kicking our seats and Dad taking offense when I told his little rugrats to zip it because he wouldn't do it himself.
Still having a man crush on Jason Statham though my patience is starting to run thin with his recent batch of just mildly entertaining but otherwise very indifferent action flicks.
Not a remake of the Peckinpah movie but apparently based on a true story. The source is a book by modern day adventurer Ranulph Fiennes though I doubt that only a morsel of it has transferred over to the adaptation.
