HotDonkeyBear’s review:
This film is NOTHING like I had imagined it would be.
It's less an action film and more a "coming of age" teen drama which just happens to have a smidgen of chop-sockey bits thrown in for good measure.
Chock full of symbolism and a rich tapestry of colours and lighting, nothing you see is accidental. I'll definitely have another crack at this soon to see if I've missed anything.
The Chemical Brothers score is immense and perfectly matches the snappy, batshit mental visuals.
Saoirse Ronan is brilliant as the titular heroine and I don't know why, but it always surprises me when I remember Eric Bana is actually an extremely good actor.
Cate Blanchett is a bit rubbish. She seems to be playing a vamped up Tilda Swinton and sticks out like a sore thumb and Tom Hollander cranks the camp up to 11 as the Eurotrash henchman.
Just brilliant.
"Eurotrash henchman". Yes.
Much better than my phrase, which was "crazy blonde German assassin."
