The Matrix 1999 ★★★★★

Rewatched Jul 08, 2012

Whoa.

Finally getting around to The Matrix trilogy again. It's pretty astounding how much of an influence the film had on action films from the time it was released. Even looking to newer superhero films, I'm sure you'll see SOMETHING in there that was probably popularized by The Matrix. And for good reason. The film still looks awesome and the computer graphics aren't even THAT dated. Love all of the practical effects used as well to kinda further heighten the idea of man and machine, A.I. and the real.

Overall, I loved this film watching it again. It's probably been around 5-6 years since I'd seen it last. I don't have very many complaints at all with it. The film stays on pace the entire runtime, vaulting through exposition and avoiding cluttering the story with any nonsense about a love story or other personal relationships. It seems very clear in its mission: here's our action movie with lots of guns and kung fu and science-fiction type stuff, take it or leave it.
