The Perks of Being a Wallflower 2012
Ooh, look at us! We listen to the Smiths and make mixtapes! I'm a vegan buddhist communist, or something! The cloyingly hip superficiality of this movie (interestingly, directed by the author of its source material) is, luckily, just that. Just as with the characters, beneath the poseurish surface, this is a film of great sensitivity.

King of the Travellers 2013
Mark O'Connor's second film has a tendency towards the trite, the muddled, and the overreaching - a shame, since his micro-budget debut, Between the Canals, was so good in a way so honest and naturalistic. Some of the performances are outright bad.

Less of a film, so much as a succession of twists.
This is compelling due to Danny Boyle's mastery of his craft; however, it has a tendency towards the overbearing, case in point being the ubiquitous Inception-style "DUNDUNDUNDUNDUNDUNDUUUHHH!!!!!" music that pummels the senses whenever Boyle allows the audience a moment of revelation.
