Christina’s review published on Letterboxd:
Since seeing this movie, I have never been able to hear Stealers Wheel's "Stuck in the Middle With You" without thinking of Michael Madsen and his dance as he tortured a captured policeman.
I watched this movie knowing nothing about it one night and I was hooked. Tarantino has a gift for dialogue like none other. I love the pop culture references, the snappiness of the exchanges and yes the profanity. The soundtrack for the movie was perfect, the juxtaposition of the peppy 70's tunes with the extreme violence added to the impact of the film. I loved the non-linear storyline that Tarantino has employed often. The cast, Roth, Keitel, Madsen, Buscemi, et al, do a fabulous job and play well off each other. Tarantino definitely pays homage to many classic films but puts it all together to create something new and one of my favorites.
When I was done watching it the first time, I rewound (yes, VHS days), and watched it again.
