Christina’s review:
I have always heard mixed reviews on this movie...John Wayne won an Academy Award for it but some say more for his whole career than this particular effort. I have to say I really enjoyed the movie. Kim Darby was quite good as the strong-willed teenager than pushes for justice. Glen Campbell was a bit weak but better than I expected. John Wayne seemed comfortable and suited to play the cranky Marshall who had a soft spot for Mattie. Robert Duvall and Bruce Dern, amongst others, played convincing bad guys as expected. The setting was gorgeous I found myself wanting to road trip to WY or CO. My only distraction was the obvious 60s hairstyles. While I enjoyed the grittier Coen brothers version, I prefer the original.
