  • Premium Rush 2012

    ★★★ Watched 14 May, 2013

Would I have rather had Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon in some fantastic dramatic indie flick? Sure. But will I take them in a fast-paced 90-minute no frills action-thriller? Absolutely. Premium Rush is a fun little film that is sheer entertainment and nothing more. It's a tad silly at times, which hurt the film's overall credibility, but it never lessened my enjoyment of it. It's great to see JGL and especially Shannon ham it up over an hour-and-a-half, and Premium Rush is certainly a solid way to kill some time. Recommended.

  • Compliance 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 12 May, 2013

If this film was not a true story, I would never have believed it.

It makes my head hurt thinking a collection of people can be this stupid. It's absolutely mind-boggling.

As for the film itself? It's pretty good.

And even though her character is somewhat similar (which wasn't necessarily a bad thing for me), I still found that Safety Not Guaranteed to be a rewarding movie, even if it didn't quite meet my admittedly high expectations (due to the number…

  • Pain & Gain 2013

    ★★★★ Watched 27 Apr, 2013

As much as I'd like to go with the movie snob approach to this review of Pain & Gain and rip apart Michael Bay, I totally can't. Truth is, outside of the Transformers sequels (I haven't seen the third; I'm just guessing) and Pearl Harbor (I haven't seen this since I was 16 in the theater), I've quite liked everything the Baymeister has done. But considering he hasn't made a film outside of the Transformers universe in eight years, I was…
