    What a depressing thought.

Improvisation often leads to uneven stuff, and with this movie the technique proves to live up to that expectation. But the subject matter is good, and the performances, in my opinion, are quite good. It's an intimate portrait of a different side to why people make movies. There's bound to be connections, and for some people, maybe those moments of connection can only be acquired through the making of a movie, by having the moments captured through a camera lens.…

    Absolute bollocks.

  • Under the Skin 2013

    ★★★½ Watched 29 Jun, 2014

Under The Skin takes it's sweet time getting to the parts that really connect with you on an emotional level. During the first 50 minutes, while there were elements that were set up to be paid off later, for me it still felt slightly repetitive anyway.

On a technical level, it works all the way. As far as I can tell most of the visual effects scenes are done the old fashioned way just utilizing lighting, lenses and in-camera-tricks to…

  • The Raid 2 2014

    ★★★½ Watched 27 Jun, 2014

It's just too long, and with too many characters. There's nothing wrong with aiming for bigger and better when doing a sequel, but the story gets muddled very fast.

The Raid 2 is a lot of fun and even improves on the inventiveness of choreography and relatively low-budget filmmaking, but the open-world feeling of the story waters down the tension of the original film.

My kid brother liked it a lot. It also has a couple of jokes thrown in for the adults.

  • Martyrs 2008

    ★★★★★ Watched 16 Jun, 2014

Martyrs sweeps through many different stages in terms of genre, ideas, pacing and even philosophy during it's relative short runtime. It successfully peels away the absolute dread and horror of the first scenes and drags the audience into a state of deep melancholy and even bittersweetness. As beautiful as it is ugly, Martyrs makes you feel emotionally cleansed in a way the greeks never achieved through their puny definition of catharsis.
