God Bless America 2012
Wow. Sure it's a tad heavy-handed and repetitive but this new comedic satire from Bobcat Goldthwait is another winning film from the controversial former (?) stand-up. I've liked all of Bobcat's films (though I've never seen Shakes the Clown) but this film resonates with me the most out of his other films. It's also great to see Bill Murray's brother Joel in a leading role. A very good movie even if it is predictable (the ending is inevitable). God Bless "God Bless America" (Hyperbole, much?) ;)

Air Collision 2012
I hate to say tgis but I turned this off halfway through. A disaster movie with bad acting, absolutely no logic and terrible CGI. It's from The Asylum and I guess compared to most of the drivel they put out, this is ok but as a movie in and of itself this sucks big time.

First Desires 1984
Caught this streaming on Hulu. David Hamilton was (is?) is a world-famous photographer who specialized in tinted, dream-like pictures of thin vaguely underage women in the nude. His films were very much the same as that, with this otherwise pointless flick as the prime example of his moderately pervy style of filmmaking.

Maslin Beach 1997
Very much a product of it's times, "Maslin Beach" is the "Smoke" of nude beach movies. That's not to say this is a good movie, it's insanely stupid and predictable and only a few of the various interconnecting stories work but it is good for a quick chuckle.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2011
I have to be honest: I only watched about an hour and hour minutes of this movie. I have nothing against slow movies but this was just totally BORING and I didn't care about the characters or the mystery in the least. For does who have seen it: Does it get better past the 1:11 mark?

The Forgiveness of Blood 2012
"Maria Full of Grace" director Christopher Marston's latest film is a slowly paced study of what happens when an Albanian family's men are forced to stay in hiding after the patriarch kills someone. Pretty boring at times but featuring some pretty dar. Good performances especially from the sassy young lady playing the oldest daughter, Rudina!

4:44 Last Day on Earth 2012
A movie that has left me utterly perplexed. This is a seemingly purposely mundane movie about the end of the world as seen through the eyes of a New York couple (Dafoe and Leigh). They go about their daily routines, watch lots of news coverage, fight, have sex and paint all while waiting for the world to end at 4:44 AM. Not much really happens. There's a lot of scenes with Dafoe and Leigh (and a Chinese food delivery man!)…

The Kreutzer Sonata 2008
In preperation of seeing Terrence Davies' "The Deep Blue Sea" tomorrow, I've decided to revisit Bernard Rose's absolutely brilliant and supposidly similar "The Kreutzer Sonata". Danny Huston has never been better and even though Rose is best known for directing "Candyman", this is his masterpiece IMHO. I love, love, love this movie. I hope Davies' film is half as good!

Young Adult 2011
I hated "Juno". I thought I hated Diablo Cody in general (everybody hates "Jennifer's Body" and her tv show with Toni Collette got old fast) but I really liked this movie even though it is repetitive. It's a different beast than "Juno": less quippy yet also meaner. It reminds me of a cross between "Misery" and "Fatal Attraction" but done as a comedy. That comparison makes no sense now but once you see the movie it will.

DeadHeads 2011
Quite definately the goofiest zombie movie ever made, this is essentially the R-rated comedy version of next year's hotly anticipated "Warm Bodies" only this movie isn't nearly as serious as that movie probably will be. This is a comedy first and foremost and it's pretty darn good even though it's Tim Burton-style goofiness wears thin after a short while.

We Need to Talk About Kevin 2011
Acclaimed Scottish Director Lynne Ramsay's own unique take on the "evil kid" subgenre of film (IE. The Omen, Joshua, The Bad Seed, Orphan) is a visually sumptuous unnerving tale of a mother and her truely evil child. Swinton is off-the-charts here (why wasn't she Oscar nominated?) and Ezra Miller is creepy perfection as Kevin, Swinton's "demon spawn". This is a very good movie even though it is depressing. Definately not the feel-goodmovie of the year as it will probably make you never want to have children of your own.

The Dish & the Spoon 2011
"Harold and Maude" not quirky enough for you? Well then, I have just the film for you! Greta Gerwig plays Rose, a woman whose husband cheats on her and so she starts up a weird, meandering relationship with a teenage boy who looks about 16 but is probably older. Overwhelmingly quirky at times and Gerwig plays a kooky, borderline nuts character that is hard to like (not that you always have to like a protagonist) and yes it's meandering and…
