Sunshine 2007

Jay Cheel’s review:
Hadn't rewatched this since its initial release in 2007. This movie is amazing. Stunning visuals, great score, awesome cast/performances (Chris Evans rules in this) and a perfect blend of interesting sci-fi concepts with traditional thriller/horror beats (mainly in the third act) which are elevated by Boyle's kinetic visuals, editing, and sound design.
I agree the first two acts were great, but wasn't a fan of the third act initially. The tonal shift was quite sudden and off putting. Maybe it'll work better for me in a repeat viewing. I own the blu, been meaning to check it out again.
Wow, I came to leave essentially the exact same comment as Brent above: loved the first two acts, wasn't a fan of the third, but definitely want to rewatch.
This is an awesome movie! One of my favorite sci fi movies ever.
Gets better everytime.
Amazing film and one of my favourite Blu-rays; visually and aurally stunning.
Definitely one of my favourite sci-fi films of the last decade.
Loved the sci-fi, didn't like the tonal shift to horror. But like I said before it's something I need to revisit. To call this as pure sci-fi is akin to calling Alien as pure sci-fi... Just isn't the case.
What made this film work for me was these specialized individuals on their mission, and when things go south they have to decide who is expendable and who is not? I don't think the third act really lived up to what took place in the first two thirds of the film but I still love it a lot...just ordered the BLu
I was in exactly the same situation as you Jay. I really enjoyed this film when it was released, and had not rewatched it until recently. I love good (and even some bad) Sci-fi. This is one of my favorites for all the reasons you mention.
Good, concise review.
Completely agree Jay. The first time I saw it, and even the second time, I had problems with the final part. But not this time, somehow it worked for me. The rest of the film is some of the best sci-fi ever. And Boyle's visuals are amazing. Fucking intense.
