This slow-burning action movie would be my pick for the best thus far in a series that I'm not very fond of. Rarely has a simple story been told through such convoluted means. The incessant exposition seems to serve no master, creating no suspense and clouding more than it explicates. Gilroy's general aversion to action for the bulk of the film requires him to edit the hell out if it, hoping to convince us that important stuff is happening. I especially liked that the main character's motivation threatens to turn this into Flowers for Algernon, but was disappointed that we didn't get to see a spy movie version of Charly, even for a few minutes.
