Antichrist 2009 ★★★★

I like this film because it is beautiful and insane at the same time. I think many people find the closing act pretentious and obtuse. To be honest, I don't try to interpret the last act. I just view it as a horror, B-movie. I don't care what Lars is trying to say, I just like the way he says it.

  • Great review. Thanks for summing up my thoughts exactly and succinctly.

  • Yeah, that's similar to what I thought too. I think there are definitely pretentious elements that really rubbed me the wrong way the first time I saw it, but on re-watch I made sure to actively ignore those aspects and what I was left with was an awesome cabin in the woods horror movie. Shot incredibly well.

  • "I don't care what he's trying to say, I just like the way he says it."

This sums up my attitude to cinema entirely: it's not about the message or whether there even is one, it's about the style of it. Thank you!

  • Yep, the more movies I see, it seems that the more important the style becomes. Since there are really no new messages or storylines, how a message is expressed is often more important what the message is.
