Premium Rush 2012
I'm glad I waited to watch on cable. Goofy in an unoffensive kind of way, but mediocre in its mediocrity. 2 stars, though, for Michael Shannon's insane performance, which borders on nic cage greatness.

Man of Steel 2013
Bombastic, over the top spectacle - from the special effects to the music. To me, a prime example of a modern blockbuster with more hits than misses. That said, it definitely has its share of flaws.

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
Did anyone else get a Godfather III flashback moment? The scene when a helicopter attempts to kill all the mob bosses in that hotel room? Very similar scene in this movie. Does anyone even remember GF III?

Pain & Gain 2013
This . . movie . . . is . . . so . . . freakin' . . . long. Sometimes interesting and funny, but I could not wait for it to be over.
-
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows 2011
Silly, but enjoyable on that level.
-
Killer Joe 2012
I was more forgiving of this movie on a second viewing. This is an average movie bookended by two scenes that I really like.
-
The Amazing Spider-Man 2012
Still like this film better than Sam raimi's.
-
Children of Men 2006
Gets better every time I see it. Layers upon layers of meaning and world-building.

Striking Distance 1993
So bad it's kind of good. Very similar in plot and setting to "Twisted"; cool seeing a young Jessica Parker.
Also, who knew that a simple flare could cause a car to explode?

Anna Karenina 2012
Tolstoy meets "Cruel Intentions" - and I happen to love Cruel Intentions. Often too light-hearted for the source material, but great economy of storytelling.
