Watching this movie was a very unique experience for me. Ultimately, I liked it a lot, but it took a while to get there. I'll try to explain, but it won't be adequate.

The best way that I can explain it is this: It takes a while for the plot (and the story) to catch up with the mood and the acting in the movie.

So, the first half of the movie is pretty standard "missing person" movie fare, with…

Took in a second viewing - loved it even more - gave it the full five star. That being said, if someone were to go in with sky high expectations, they'd be disappointed.

I haven't read any of the reviews, but I think the key to whether someone really likes this movie or not is the performance of Tom Hardy. If one sees it as authentic and good acting, I think that they'd really like the movie. If one sees his performance as a Sly Stalone in 'Rocky' impersonation, I'd think that they'd actively dislike it. I love his performance - I think it is award-worthy.

  • A Walk Among the Tombstones 2014

    ★★★½ Watched 19 Sep, 2014

A nice noir exercise - a great date movie, I would think. It has the prerequisite twists and turns - though nothing really major - and a little heart thrown in to boot. I wouldn't mind a sequel.

Even better the second time around.

  • Don't Look Now 1973

Easily one of the least enjoyable films I have ever seen. Boring, pointless, listless, plotless, and without even the hint of dread.

Nice little matinee thriller or redbox rental. Some interesting ideas, and definitely plays off the fact that Brosnan was once Bond. What would happen if Bond became old and bitter and retired (even though the "Bond" in this film is more closely related to the current Daniel Craig interpretation), and was stripped of his glamour?

I can't believe i got sucked in again! I said nevermore after the last one, but the trailers got me. Unfortunately, the trailer visuals is about all that is good in this movie. Not as horribly bad as the last two, but still very bad. About a combined 15 good minutes of movie, and at least I laughed once.

It's my own fault - never again (at least in the theater), for real this time.

All of the atmosphere, dread, and despair of HBO's True Detective (first season) distilled into 100 minutes, with a little more satisfying ending. Did I mention atmosphere??

Fulfilled the promise that I had in my heart for the 1998 movie - which almost completely crushed my soul.

Thank you, Gareth Edwards, for restoring my faith.
