Gavin Rye’s review:
While not awful, this was pretty damn average. Not as good as the creepy original film in the slightest. The little monsters look ok they are just shown too early and there is little to no suspense. The little girl was pretty good so would have been nice to see her put into some better situations. The film is also full of plot holes. No one believes her about the monsters yet she kills one and surely the body is right there for everyone to see yet it's never even mentioned. Also no one seems to question how the gardener got stabbed while working alone in the cellar.
Pretty much what I thought about it. It just lacked some of the flare that Del Toro usually has.
