Golden rule: If I can forgive Ewan McGregor doing an American accent in your film, you've made a great film. Congratulations, Mike Mills! But for many more reasons than that, Beginners is wonderful. Sweet but not cloying, quirky but not precious, and subtly moving. McGregor, Plummer and the absurdly pretty Laurent are also brilliant, as is the photography and soundtrack. Not forgetting Arthur, too.

The soundtrack is great. I've had it on steady repeat since it came out. The scene with Christopher Plummer getting his hair done is probably my favourite scene from a movie this year.
He's incredible! I also liked him approximating house music on the phone.
