Jez Burrows’s review published on Letterboxd:
Look, the Hunger Games books are not good. They're addictive and trashy and I read all three in the space of a couple weeks, but they are by no means good. That being said, the first book is the best of the bunch and does a good job of building a world and sustaining a good deal of tension. So why was I so bored watching this?
There's no real characterisation of any of the characters (I feel like Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks had about 20 lines between them), the CGI is so magnificently, breathtakingly bad, and the action sequences are just one blurry mess after another. Also this thing is like 60% montage. That is too much montage.
The casting is fine, the visual design is admirable given the scope of the books, but everything just felt so shallow and hastily realised. Disappointing.
