Loved it all over again, even more.

  • August: Osage County 2013

Excellent performances by Steep and Roberts. But this is a mean, nasty family with a toxic dynamic. The best scene for me was one in which one character calls another out on her meanness.

I probably will never watch this again because it is so filled with vitriol.

  • The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug 2013

    ★★½ Watched 16 Dec, 2013

To me this will be know as "The Hobbit - Too" (as in too many orcs, going in too many directions, too name it)

  • Now You See Me 2013

    ★★ Watched 25 Jan, 2014

Ridiculous, filled with plot holes, and basically makes no sense.

  • Beauty and the Beast 1946

    A true classic!

This my first Xavier Dolan film. He has been on my radar for several years but until now his films have alluded me.

I really had high hopes going into this film, but I left scratching my head.

I am not sure what to make of this film. This film shows Dolan to be a fine actor and director. He successfully ramps up the tensions and creepy undercurrents in the story. However this story its self perplexed me. I couldn't…

  • The Lunchbox 2013

    ★★★★ Watched 28 Sep, 2013

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. But what if the meal you have lovingly created goes astray? A young wife tries to rekindle the spark in her marriage however the mis-delivery of that lunch sends it onto the desk of an emotionally distant executive (the wonderful Irrfan Khan) getting ready to slip off quietly into retirement.

This is a sweet, tender film that is filled with quiet moments. The hectic hum of Mumbi life is captured beautifully in this film and you will leave feel like indulging in good Indian curry.

  • Into the Wind 2010

    ★★★½ Rewatched 12 Sep, 2013

It is that time of year when communities around Canada hold "Terry Fox Runs" and school children collect "Twoonies for Terry" and revisit the story of this heroic young man who did something truly selfless back in 1980 when he committed to run a marathon a day across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

I had never heard of Terry Fox until I moved to Canada 20 years ago. If you are unfamiliar with his story, I encourage you…

  • Oldboy 2003

    ★★★★½ Watched 24 Aug, 2013

A brilliant, brutal and twisted film. But beyond this it is a technical masterpiece.

One can see how other directors have been influenced by this movie.

I do not know what Spike Lee is trying to accomplish by remaking this.

  • In Bruges 2008

Hey, what a better way to prepare for a trip to Bruges?!?! ;o)

  • The East 2013

    ★★★★ Watched 27 Jun, 2013

An effective thriller about environmental anarchism and corporate greed. Brit Marling is as captivating is ever.

The story (by Marling and her writing partner, Zal Batmanglij) is fairly predictable, but the performances are all solid.

I view it as a companion piece to Marling & Batmangali's previous film "Sound of My Voice". It would also make a pretty good double bill with the documentary "If A Tree Falls"

Forget those two Snow White movies that came out in 2012. This is the one to see!! It is beautiful and moving. Seek it out!
