  • The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared 2013

    ★★★½ Watched 11 Oct, 2014

On the day he is set to celebrate his 100th birthday Allan decide to leave the old-folks home and finds his way into one last adventure. Much like his life, things happen through chance. He does not plot out the course of his live. (He really only plots where his next drink is coming from.) Interspersed with his centenarian adventure are flashbacks to the adventures earlier in his life. Yes, it is delightfully darkly comedy. Be prepared to laugh your…

  • Million Dollar Arm 2014

    ★★★ Watched 21 Sep, 2014

I thought this was going to be a sports movie, but it is really a 'coming of age' movie of a middle aged "Peter Pan" man. I found it predictable but enjoyable.

  • 22 Jump Street 2014

    ★★★★ Watched 29 Jul, 2014

Just what the doctor ordered - stupid silly fun. Lots of laughs.

  • Godzilla 2014

    ★★★ Watched 14 May, 2014

Great monsters. Loved the special effects and the scale of the movie. Loved Godzilla!

The people part - not so great. Cheezy family stuff. Some wasted talent.

  • In a World... 2013

    ★★★ Watched 20 Jul, 2014

Insight into the world of voice over artists.

Lake Bell is charming though the story is predictable.

    A fun light movie

  • Under the Skin 2013

    ★★½ Watched 16 May, 2014

This is an ART HOUSE film, not a movie.

This is one you see with a friend or friends and go out and discuss with a glass of wine and plate of cheese.

It may work for some, but not for others.

TIP: You may be able to get your friend/spouse/partner to see it by telling them ScarJo gets naked.

    Have fun.

  • Snowpiercer 2013

    ★★★★ Watched 17 Jul, 2014

Full disclosure - I have been waiting for this film's release and when it did not open in Canada, I took a road trip across the border into the US to see it. I felt it was worth the drive.

Brutal, visually stunning, violent but stylized not over the top graphic, exceptional performance by Swinton, solid performances by rest of the cast, consistant pace. I recommending seeing it in the theatre or on the largest screen possible.

  • The Grand Seduction 2013

    ★★★★ Watched 17 Jun, 2014

A sweet, funny (if predictable) little Canadian movie. This is a remake of a French- Canadian movie that I have not seen. It is fun to see all the Canadian actors who cropped up in this although the wonderful Irish actor Brendan Gleeson is one of the main characters. Great slice of Eastern Canadian life.

  • How to Train Your Dragon 2 2014

    ★★★★½ Watched 13 Jul, 2014

Just wonderful. I loved all the flying sequences, animation is exquisite, Hiccup's mother is fantastic, and all the additional dragons - yes!! Builds on may of the same themes as the first movie - family, loyalty, finding ones path - but never feels repetitive.

So why not 5 stars?? Well the first movie will always hold that special magic that comes with something new. This second movie is a worthy ,

Way better than I was expecting.

Loved it all over again, even more.

  • August: Osage County 2013

    ★★★½ Watched 20 Jan, 2014

Excellent performances by Steep and Roberts. But this is a mean, nasty family with a toxic dynamic. The best scene for me was one in which one character calls another out on her meanness.

I probably will never watch this again because it is so filled with vitriol.
