The Avengers 2012

Jim Bivins’s review:
The film lacks a real cinematic edge, it is a propulsive story though and covers a lot of ground. I don't know if it's fair to describe it as looking like a big budget TV production, it is told with a TV-like efficiency though. The film does more than make up for that (if it even has to) with terrifically staged and intense action, solid dialog, great character interaction and humor. I probably laughed more than with many recent comedies...a couple of times I almost couldn't stop. And I don't want to take away from the visual language present...there are some well done visual gags and moments. This is just a purely entertaining film, top to bottom. A perfect four stars.
Spoiler: The cameo by Harry Dean Stanton is so warm and perfect...it just works.
