A competently written, acted and directed, and acted revenge thriller that takes place in my home state of Maine. It's totally out of Katie Aselton's wheel house but she does a good job of establishing the characters and setting the mood before things go to hell which, for me, is a key part of the genre. Also, while this clearly isn't meant to fall under the "mumblecore" umbrella, there are nods to it, especially with some of the dialogue. It isn't without its flaws-the whole scenario here doesn't totally make sense, no one in Maine goes to a deserted island to deer hunt-but I enjoyed it.

Finally got around to finishing this miniseries today and I was totally blown away by it. The acting is superb and the cinematography is wonderful. A minor quibble is all the time spent watching characters drive around. I think if they edited that down, they could have shortened the series by an episode. That aside, very well done. Seriously doubt there will be a continuation but it would be welcome.

Man, this movie is a god damn punch in the gut. Is there anything more naked and honest than Frank on his knees cursing God for making him unloved and stupid and ugly? That scene is hardcore. This whole movie is hardcore. Love it.
