The Hunger Games 2012 ★★★★

Watched Apr 07, 2012

The Hunger Games is a very enjoyable futurist adventure, presented with a compelling, beady-eyed intensity. While a great ride of a movie, it is also one wrapped around an oddly disquieting message. A blockbuster that has something to say about the world we could be living in. Unlike Twilight, this film actually has a deeper and more important philosophical meaning.

  • Were we watching the same movie? Twilight and the Hunger Games are equally vapid, but Twilight has better cinematography.

"Unlike Twilight, this film actually has a deeper and more important philosophical meaning." Lemme explain this deeper meaning behind the Hunger Games, The Hunger Games, at first sight, appears to be your average teen romance trilogy, but upon second glance, it is more than that, a future where corrupt politics, starvation vs. greed, obsession of entertainment, and the symbolism behind most of the characters names. All these explore a deeper meaning, though it is true that the book and movie are different.

  • I found Hunger Games to be a great critique on modern society's obsession with garish and cruel reality shows and also a warning sign of class division. Twilight had nothing to say beyond being a vampiric screen adaptation of a particularly weak Mills & Boons novel.

  • Couldn't agree more, Johnny and Jim, these films are worlds apart.
Even my husband (in his 50's) enjoyed Hunger Games, I couldn't even make it through all of Twilight!

  • i couldn't agree more guys, hope this helps p@, in clarifying both movies :P

  • I disagree with you.

The movie definitely has a promising premise, but it really doesn't take a stance on any issue and gets too caught up in its teen romance plot to actually deliver any substantial social commentary. It never actually explores any of the topics you mentioned. It just sort of goes, "LOL GUYS DA GUBBAMENT IN DIS STORY IS EVIL LOL IM SO DEEP XDDDD"

Twilight, on the other hand, was actually filmed by someone who isn't an epileptic midget and doesn't pretend to be something that it's not.

  • Well, everyone is entitled to there own opinion :)
