This is as good of a remake of STRAW DOGS can be.
It's a "re-imaginging" of the original story, reset in the southern America. This makes for very interesting changes - but the film is basically the same.
To me - a good remake is one that acknowledges or tips its hat off to the original and yet brings something new to the table. This film does that. Even though it mostly stays faithful to the original, the slight changes and locale change make for a good watch. Especially with it being set in modern day.
The best change / addition: some dialogue explaining what "straw dogs" are.
Have not seen this and reluctant to, mainly because I'm not excited to re-visit the story again. Not because it's not a good story and I really thought the original is an amazing movie. I think mainly, at this point in my life, the subject matter is something I'd rather not watch. But it looked like they did a good job and if this draws more people to watch the original, great. Always felt like it deserved a bigger audience.
