Jake Stevenson’s review:
If, like me, you've always wondered what the future battle scenes from T1 & T2 would be like stretched out to a full movie keep wondering because you get anywhere near it with this film.
Despite a reported budget of $200m there's hardly any large scale battles between humans & Terminators. McG and (rumoured) army writers showed balls trying to change the dynamic of the previous films from a chase movie to a men on a mission tale but there's hardly any mission to speak of.
The principal cast do a good job, Bale is intense as usual and Sam Worthing is ok but the standouts are Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reece and Moon Goodblood as a sexy pilot who believes in Worthington's cause.
McG dials back his usual box of tricks from Charlies Angles (thank God!) but everything just seems small and unexciting...
I haven't watched this since it first came out, but I remember it didn't feel like they tried to make a complete movie... like they tried to make the first movie in a new trilogy or franchise and the result was you don't get anything resembling a satisfying ending with this one.
