Django Unchained 2012
Need to watch it a second time but, right now, I think quoting a Robert Christgau review of an OutKast record doesn't seem like a bad idea: "just commercial ebullience, creative confidence, and wretched excess, blessed excess, impressive excess".

Safety Not Guaranteed 2012
Duplass and Plaza give great performances but the movie's insane sense of optimism just doesn't feel right to me. It's the second film I've seen recently where the screenplay loves it's characters so much it just forces itself to give them a happy ending (the other one was "All About My Mother" but at least that one had some interesting stuff going on). The indie equivalent of Oscar bait type movies. In the end it's a harmless, pleasant little object but so is a mattress.
