Dead Heat 1988 ★★★★

I had overlooked this for a while, but this film actually managed to be a pleasant surprise. An '80s buddy-cop/zombie movie? Featuring Vincent Price? It sounds rather unusual, but it manages to work very well. You have your typical wise-guy cop dropping one-liners left and right and providing the lighthearted banter (all of which is enjoyable rather than irritating); teamed with him is the level-headed counterpart who undergoes some rather serious changes, which causes him to question the state of his very being (and eventually take advantage of said state). There's some campy, yet great makeup work done here, although unfortunately it's not used all too often; however, that doesn't deter from the film in any form. The ending was, should I say... to die for? In all seriousness, though, the closure is both satisfying and comedic as all hell. This film is cheesy in all the right ways; it has that 1980s urban sci-fi vibe to it (complete with lightning and fog effects) as well as being an action/comedy that doesn't fail to appease.
