Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2004 ★★★★

Watched Aug 08, 2012

Not sure what I expected of this movie but it surprised me in a very special way. Jim Carrey is outstanding, as he usually is when he is not incredibly annoying, that is, whenever he plays a serious role, like in The Truman Show or The Majestic. Kate Winslet also provides a great performance.

Between the two, they portray a couple as they fall in and out of love, and they relive some of their best and worst memories as the completely unexpected sci-fi-esque plot unfolds. It really is an original idea and it lends itself to exploring the two flawed characters of Clementine and Joel and their relationship, how they are somehow destined to be together against all odds and how, even knowing that there is a high risk of them eventually splitting up, they decide to take the risk and pursue their love.

This is one of those movies where not a lot happens but you just enjoy watching the people in it just hang out with each other because you can truly feel their emotions.
