Wim Wenders presents a vibrantly coloured road film that is framed with extreme craft.

Harry Dean Stanton plays a curious role, going from mysterious mute to the character who carries the film come the finale. The plot has a strangely unknown direction and red herrings of sorts are slipped in, such as a suspicious pimp. There is a strong sense that this film has the density of a novel even if much of the narrative is simplistic.

It takes pride in showcasing the American landscape, while also being an intimate road film that focuses on few characters in a family unit. The pivotal confrontation lacks a little awe even if no simple resolution is provided.

The Reverence: A creepy man hanging outside the schoolyard beats out the Cabazon Dinosaur. A lack of nudity or car crashes was also noted.
