I had never seen this film or read the book it is based on before so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's a surprisingly darker toned animated film than Disney was doing around the time and I think the story succeeds like that.

The animation on the DVD I watched hadn't seemed to be restored or anything but it still looked nice, if not a little dated. Overall, it is an enjoyable and fun film from director Don Bluth.

I'm not sure if the sequel is worth watching or not, seeing as I haven't heard very good things in comparison to the original.
