Cold cold war
If anyone ever says nothing good came out of the cold war, you tell that commie where to stick it. Then show them this list.

Red Dawn.
Also, the very grim The Day After.

Dr. Strangelove, Three Days of the Condor (bonus points for Robert Redford from that LAAAAME movie Sneakers (I can still taste the cheese)).
The Good Shepherd would also benefit this list.

Thanks for the great suggestions. Is The Good Shepherd strictly cold war? I've added it to my watch list regardless as it looks awesome.

No Way Out.
The original Manchurian Candidate with Frank Sinatra. Good film. Fantastic opening sequence.
It's killing me that we can't add in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Alec Guinness version) or Smiley's People, given that they are both mini-series. Maybe after January after the new movie version of TTSS gets released in NZ it can be added?
You're right, Karl. The film actually includes multiple events spanning approximately fifty years — WWII, the Bay of Pigs Invasion, and the Cold War.
