The Great Gatsby 2013
(Showplace ICON) What a mess. Both the visuals and the audio are so sporadic and with no flow whatsoever, there is not a single sequence to engage with. Is there a story in there somewhere? I was so exhausted after 20 minutes of flashy CGI-induced "camerawork," I could care less.

(Showplace ICON) Korine makes a far more palatable TRASH HUMPERS for the multiplex, but instead of creating a commentary on the sensory pursuits of adulthood, he scribes a memento for youth and the live-fast-fuck-you energy right before it fades. Taking a rare feminine tilt on the rage against the machine, SPRING BREAKERS is a hotbed of cultural riff-raff (drugs, sex, money, guns, power) that fumes without the blasé pedantic context or patronizing moral compass. All funneled through a sun-drenched drug-induced fever dream--take that MTV.
