Matt Gamble’s review:
I'm starting to get worried about the state of Pixar after this mediocre Disney princess movie which is mislabeled as a Pixar movie. Outisde of a lack of straight out musical numbers, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this and Tangled.
I'm beginning to suspect Disney is saving the best scripts for their brand, and sending the castoffs to Pixar, resulting in more and more sequels, and sub-par original content. And even Wreck-It Ralph, a film that looks like it should be a Pixar film, seems to supports this as it carries strictly the Disney label.
Say it isn't so. I actually liked Tangled a fair bit, but... oof.
Tangled is solid, but it follows the standard Disney movie tropes and Brave consistently does the same thing. Sure, it is dark for a Pixar movie, but no darker than The Fox and the Hound or much of Disney's earlier work.
Yeah, the Wreck it Ralph trailer looked like such an awesome idea (similar to the castaway toys in Toys 3). Hope it doesn't disappoint.
