The Dark Knight Rises 2012
So is there a story somewhere in this utter piece of garbage? Nolan got The Dark Knight so right and somehow utterly screwed up the next one with disjointed story fragment on top of fragment. The good news is that If you've found Bale's Batman voice annoying throughout the series, it's subtle compared to Hardy's Bane voice.

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
Too twee for me.

The Social Network 2010
Reasons that this film is great:
1) The story is the perfect stage for some of Aaron Sorkin's best dialogue and Jesse Eisenberg pulls it off.
2) There is no protagonist in the classic sense.
3) Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' soundtrack.
4) Fincher makes an edge of the seat film about a code writing geek who has Aspergers.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 2011
Made with exquisite detail to character and story. Left me wanting more in the best way possible. Kudos all around.

Black Swan 2010
I was waiting for Darren Aronofsky to finally hit one out of the ball park. He finally did it. I'm sure the Italian horror masters are proud of him for this one.

The Godfather 1972
One of the things that makes this the greatest mob film ever made is that its not so much a film about the mob. Its a film about family. It has one of the finest opening scenes ever filmed. I literally watch this one about 8 times a year.

There Will Be Blood 2007
People love to love PT Anderson. Why shouldn't they? His ability to show a story with a camera is masterful, he has a penchant for telling offbeat tales with offbeat characters, he is something of an elusive auteur and he entered the canon of film at a rather young age with his second feature, Boogie Nights. Since the aforementioned film, Anderson has chased ambitious projects with god given talent but has yet to make another cohesive project.

Thor 2011
Oh, this was directed by the great actor/director named Kenneth Branagh who is mostly associated with Shakespearean works????? Well that makes perfect sense; doesn't it? WTF!!!!!! We have a new contender for biggest piece of shit ever. One might have to have seen this shiny piece of turd in the theater to fully understand just how terrible this really is; every single aspect of it. All I wanted was a bit of mindless crap Hollywood entertainment, but instead I got…

A Clockwork Orange 1971
I first saw this film when I was 11 years old. By the time I was 13, I had convinced my mother to let me dress as a Droog for Halloween. I do still crave a malenky bit of the old ultra-violence when I see this one.
For fans of Clockwork, see also Bronson = letterboxd.com/film/bronson/

Star Trek 2009
This film is a wonderful homage to the history of Stark Trek. It would've been so easy to fuck this movie up royally. Instead, JJ Abrams made an incredibly faithful Star Trek film for a wide contemporary audience and imbues it with his blockbuster candy-like visual language - lens flare city.
