Weekend 2011 ★★★★½

Watched May 15, 2012

Well Weekend is one of my favorite movies of 2011, i watched it this year after a long wait. Weekend is a very good movie and it tells the story of two people in love. Russell meets Glen in a gay nightclub where they first stare at each other, slowly talk and then what the thought would be just a one time fling over a weekend turns out to be something that will stay with them for the rest of their life. This is not your usual romantic movie nor is it your typical gay movie with lots of cheesy and weird things. This has to be the best movie of its kind since the brilliant Brokeback Mountain. The style of this movie is similar to Before Sunrise/Sunset meaning most of the time the characters just talk.

Director of the movie Andrew Haigh handled the movie with very care and provided us with very realistic, honest and poignant take on romantic drama. The characters talk, eat, sleep, have sex, go out and do other things than normal people do in a very normal way. This is exactly how people will talk and it is this kind of a brilliance that makes this movie one of its kind.
