The Age of Innocence 1993 ★★★★

Rewatched Aug 03, 2012

For me, this Scorsese adaptation of Edith Wharton's novel got better with repeat viewings over the years, but if you don't appreciate Wharton's microscopic scrutiny of social mores that frames and restrains the classic drama, you may be bored. This time viewing I was appreciative that such a master director took his hand to the work, reminded that Winona Ryder was capable of a solid performance, and floored as always by Day-Lewis, perhaps the most internal-yet-volcanic actor since Brando.
