Nightmares in Red, White and Blue 2009
Nearly 100 years of horror movies distilled into 90-minutes, with most of that time consisting of rapid-cut clips from the better known horror films of the century, I was left rather bored by the whole exercise. I found little in the way of any great insight from the film's talking heads (including horror luminaries Romero, Carpenter and Corman to name a few) and glossed over much of the social commentary that many of these films try to make.

The Captains 2011
A strange little movie that at times feels like nothing more than a vanity project for William Shatner, but at other times can be a heartfelt, introspective and honest peek into the minds of the actors who have carried the role of Starfleet Captain. From goofy anecdotes to philosophical discussions on death and legacies, this (slightly overlong) documentary isn't going to win over people who dislike the Trek franchise, but it is a fun and interesting retrospective that fans of Star Trek will enjoy.

Beyond the Black Rainbow 2011
I want to like this film. I want to love this film. It was stylish and moody with a synth soundtrack to die for (release it commercially, I *will* buy it). But for everything it gets right...it gets nearly as many wrong. And the majority of that wrongness can be found in the final ten minutes. Terrible, terrible ending.
