I remember the hype while going to watch MK when it first was released during its midnight showing. It was nuts! Perhaps the video game being at its all time peak had something to do with it. There were people of all ages...men and women...gamers and non gamers alike. They were all caught up in the excitement.
With everything all said and done, I thought it was a very good all around movie. The cast was better than average with nothing too stellar. I remember Christopher Lambert as Raiden the thunder god, but Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung stole the show as well as some souls! Nothing beats him saying, "FINISH HIM!!!" The film had the story, it was accompanied by an excellent soundtrack and of course, well choreographed martial arts fighting thrown in. I would watch it again, most likely for the nostalgia it holds, but it will also be a constant reminder of how making a movie out of a video game just doesn't really work till this day.
